Nissan Begins Expansion of Its A1 Plant in Aguascalientes, Advancing Mexico’s Automotive Manufacturing Capacity

The expansion of Nissan’s A1 manufacturing complex officially broke ground in Aguascalientes, marking a pivotal step in the state’s industrial evolution. The new facilities will house production of the first pickup trucks assembled in the region, reinforcing Aguascalientes’ position as one of the most competitive automotive hubs worldwide.
A Milestone for Aguascalientes’ Automotive Ecosystem
During the groundbreaking ceremony, Governor Tere Jiménez emphasized that the expansion underscores the state’s industrial strength, supported by world-class infrastructure, specialized talent, and a stable economic environment. She noted that Nissan’s continued confidence in Aguascalientes reflects the region’s maturity as a premier destination for advanced manufacturing.
Joan Busquets, Vice President of Manufacturing for Nissan Mexicana, highlighted the support the company has received for its new initiatives and praised the quality and commitment of the local workforce. According to Busquets, Aguascalientes’ talent base is a decisive factor behind the plants’ international recognition for operational excellence.
Increased Production Capacity and Job Creation
The project includes a new 120,000-square-meter manufacturing building dedicated to the assembly of Nissan’s upcoming pickup model. Construction is expected to generate approximately 1,300 direct jobs and 4,000 indirect jobs, while also strengthening supply-chain efficiency, reducing logistics costs, and leveraging Aguascalientes’ competitive advantages in connectivity and industrial performance.
The start of construction marks the beginning of a new phase of automotive growth for the state. With this expansion, Aguascalientes deepens its leadership in innovation, high-quality manufacturing, and global market integration, positioning itself to attract additional investment in the coming years.
