NextProtein, a French company, is set to invest 655 million pesos to expand its operations in Mexico, a move expected to generate 400 direct jobs.
NextProtein specializes in producing protein feed for animal consumption through the cultivation of larvae that convert organic waste into a valuable protein resource. This innovative product is already marketed in other countries.
"NextProtein has chosen our country as the base for its expansion in the Americas. With an investment of 655 million pesos in its first year of operation, it will generate 400 direct jobs. In the medium term, the investment is expected to reach up to 130 million euros, all of which is being facilitated by the ongoing support of SEDECO," emphasized Fadlala Akabani Hneide, head of the Mexico City Ministry of Economic Development (SEDECO).
After establishing their initial two factories in Tunisia, NextProtein officials have selected Mexico as their new regional hub. This decision was solidified through the signing of an agreement between SEDECO, the Trust for the Construction and Operation of the Central de Abasto (FICEDA), and NextProtein LATAM.
Akabani highlighted that this agreement not only strengthens foreign investment in the city but also promotes a circular economy. The initiative will facilitate the reuse and processing of up to 200 tons of organic waste annually, including fruits and vegetables unsuitable for human consumption, originating from the Central de Abasto.
This strategic investment underscores Mexico's growing role as a hub for sustainable and innovative industries, aligning with global trends towards environmental responsibility and economic resilience.
