Currently, science and
technology are increasingly important whey seeking to have forefront companies
in Coahuila, that is why two technological parks are being created in the
State: one on the Southeast region and another in La Laguna area, this was announced
during the work strategic sessions “Saltillo – Torreon Technological Park,” in
which were presented the objectives and advantages for Coahuila of having this
kind of infrastructure.
The secretary of Economic
Development and Tourism, Jaime Guerra Perez said that the fulfillment of the
projects for the construction of the technological parks in the Southeast and
La Laguna areas in the middle of 2019 with the support of those who already
executed this kind of investments in Canada, Arizona and Monterrey.
Such meetings were held in
Saltillo as well as in Torreon in order for businessmen from both regions can
be participants of this project.
Based in previous
experiences, advantages were presented and the impact for the sector when
having these establishments, achieving to develop and validate the use of tools
to assess and transfer technology and promote entrepreneurship.
Moreover, participants
mentioned, that the concept “Technological Parks” not only refers to the
science sector, but that also includes other aspects such as lodging,
universities and companies among others.
In order to create a better
interaction among attendees, they joined worktables to share their points of
view and ideas regarding that issue.
In these sessions
participated Carlos Maroto Cabrera, director of CEEC; Mario Valdes Garza, director
of COECYT Coahuila; and Ricardo Sandoval Garza, president of Coparmex Coahuila
Sureste.
In addition there was the
participation of experts representatives of the United States and Canada, as Justin
Dutram, Senior director for initiatives of Mexico from the University of
Arizona; Austin Beggs, former vice-president of Corporate Affairs from
Innovation Place in Canada; Lary Shaw, president of the Association of
University Research Parks (AURP) from Canada; as well as Carlos Ross, director
of the Center for Global Innovation and Entrepreneurship (CGIE, by its Spanish
initials) at the PITT Monterrey.
There were also present
representatives from the Universidad Autonoma de Coahuila, Manufacturas Zapaliname,
Universidad Carolina, Grupo W-Digital Invaders and Magna Internacional, among
others.
