Diehl Aviation has commenced construction of its first manufacturing facility in the Americas, located in Querétaro, Mexico, with plans to begin operations by mid-2025. The facility's inaugural product will be XL overhead bins, designed for the Airbus A220 aircraft.

The establishment of this plant marks a strategic move for Diehl Aviation as it seeks to bolster its presence and operations in the region. "The new location is aimed at further strengthening cooperation with key customers such as Airbus, Boeing, Bombardier, Embraer, and major local airlines. America represents a significant growth market for Diehl," the company stated.

Local authorities announced at the Farnborough International Airshow that the investment in this new facility exceeds 900 million pesos. Diehl Aviation's new plant will operate under its subsidiary, Diehl Aviation de Mexico, within the PyMe industrial park. This strategic location will bring the company closer to its customers, enabling shorter travel and transportation routes, which in turn will facilitate more effective collaboration.

"The enhanced responsiveness and local presence will improve Diehl Aviation's competitiveness in the market. In addition to economic potential, the location in Mexico allows for more cost-effective production, reduces product costs, and creates a local supply chain. Additionally, Diehl will gain access to a more qualified workforce," the company, a joint venture between German group Diehl and French group Thales, explained.

The facility will initially encompass 8,000 square meters of production and office space, with plans to employ approximately 500 people in the medium term. The XL overhead bins produced at the Querétaro plant will be destined for Airbus A220 aircraft, which are assembled in Mirabel, Québec, Canada, and Mobile, Alabama, USA.

The groundbreaking event was attended by notable figures including Jörg Schuler, CEO of Diehl Aviation; Alexander Beer, Vice President of Strategy and Operations Standards at Diehl Aviation; Jochen Klink, COO of Diehl Aviation; Francisco Quiroga, Mexico's Ambassador to Germany; and representatives from the Government of Querétaro, the Mexican Federation of the Aerospace Industry (FEMIA), and the Querétaro Aerocluster, among others.
