MLS Mexico, a global leader in LED lighting, has announced a USD 261.7 million investment to build a new manufacturing and technology complex in the La Laguna region of Durango. The project stands among the most significant industrial developments for the state due to its capacity to create 3,500 direct jobs and attract new value chains linked to high-specialization manufacturing.
Capital Deployment and Project Phases
The company detailed a three-phase investment strategy designed to support continuous infrastructure growth and technological integration.
The first stage will begin in February 2026 with the launch of initial facilities and the creation of 200 jobs. The second phase, planned for 2026 and 2027, will include the expansion of industrial buildings, while the third phase—scheduled from 2028 to 2030—will establish a High-Volume Engineering and Development Center, a key component for scaling production and innovation processes.
According to Liu Bruce, Global Vice President of MLS, this will become the company’s most important plant in Mexico due to its potential to supply the U.S. market and expand operations within the country. He emphasized that MLS selected Durango for its competitive environment and the opportunity to position La Laguna as a strategic hub for LED manufacturing and technology.
Governor Esteban Villegas Villarreal highlighted that the company’s decision reflects the state’s strong progress in attracting industrial investment. He underscored the availability of talent, energy capacity, intergovernmental coordination, and regional logistics as factors that provide the certainty required for large-scale projects to operate successfully.
Gómez Palacio Mayor Betzabé Martínez Arango noted that the municipality has built the conditions needed to host global companies seeking modern infrastructure and regulatory stability. She emphasized that MLS’s arrival will generate new economic opportunities and significantly strengthen the industrial ecosystem of the La Laguna region.
Economic Outlook for Durango
Governor Villegas Villarreal stated that this investment adds to a growing portfolio of industrial projects that are reshaping the state’s production landscape. He emphasized that Durango is entering a more competitive industrial stage driven by strategic investments that generate formal employment, economic growth, and technological modernization.
