Mission, Texas Showcases Workforce Dynamics and Industrial Advantages

A recent gathering hosted by The Greater Mission Chamber of Commerce in Mission, Texas, brought together various sectors including businesses, educational institutions, and industries to discuss collaborative efforts aimed at enhancing workforce development in the southern region of Texas.
During the event, a panel discussion titled "Are we ready for the future workforce?" featured insights from key figures such as Carlos Margo, Dean of Industrial Training and Economic Development at South Texas College; Natasha del Barrio, CEO of Bert Odgen and Fiesta Auto Group; and Teclo Garcia, CEO of the Mission Economic Development Corporation. The panelists provided valuable data and perspectives on job creation initiatives and strategies to attract investment projects, contributing to the region's competitiveness.
The event also highlighted the importance of equipping the student population with new skills and knowledge, as emphasized by Ricardo Solis, President of South Texas College; Paul Rodríguez, CEO of Valley Land; Daniel Silva, President and CEO of RGV Partnership; and Fernanda Sanchez, Director of Marketing and Events at RGV.
Key points of discussion included the significant investment of over $2,448,831 in educational programs by South Texas College, enrollment of 434 students between 2020 and 2023, and the diverse academic offerings specializing in fields such as computer networking, maintenance, robotics, metal-mechanics, HVAC, healthcare services, hospitality, and more. Additionally, the presence of the Center for Education and Economic Development (CEED) in Mission, offering tailored courses, workshops, and training sessions, was highlighted.
In a move to further strengthen regional collaboration, The Greater Mission Chamber of Commerce formed alliances with other cities in South Texas, welcoming prominent figures from McAllen and Pharr, including Roy Rodríguez, McAllen City Administrator; Jeremy Santoscoy, Director of Aviation at McAllen International Airport; Karina López and Nydia González from the Pharr Economic Development Corporation; and Carlos Sánchez, President of the Pharr Chamber of Commerce.
Overall, the event provided a platform for stakeholders to collaborate, exchange ideas, and reaffirm their commitment to advancing workforce development initiatives in the region.
