The expansion projects that are currently being carried out on the Anzaldúas International Bridge will be of great economic impact to the city of Mission, Texas, which has already begun to attract new investments through companies that have expanded their presence or are finding new sites.
Teclo García, CEO of the Mission Economic Development Corporation(Mission EDC), explained that the expansion of the bridge will allow commercial traffic to come in from Mexico to the United States in about 22 months.
Among the companies that have invested in Mission so far, are Rodco Steel Distributors, which is investing $9.5 million to build more than 100,000 square feet of new industrial space in Mission, Olive Garden, Dunkin Donuts, Starbucks, Taco Bell, Ihop, Burlington and Murdoch’s Ranch and Home Supply, among others.
"The first message we have for investors is that the city of Mission is prepared to receive them with qualified labor, support and a significant economic flow on both sides of the border,” Garcia said. “We invite all companies to learn why you should start your mission with us."
Mission has a large amount of land available for industrial and warehousing needs that is either for sale or lease.
"In Mexico, there is great interest in Mission — especially from companies in Reynosa and neighboring cities — but we want to promote this region to places like San Luis Potosí and Querétaro, which make up a very powerful manufacturing sector."
García noted Mission EDC has a team of 14 people that cover various areas of development to ensure the arrival of new investments and retain those that are already established.
“All of them are enthusiastic, talented,
active and willing to provide support to whoever needs it,” Garcia said. “The
city is growing a lot, and with the expansion of international bridges, we know
that new projects will arrive.”
