The renewable energies company Buenavista Renewables will invest to expand the Photovoltaic Park “Los Santos,” located in Ahumada, Chihuahua, aiming to increase its operations and promote the industrial community and the clean energies private sector, said Jose Ruiz, general director of the company.
This investment is part of the stage “Los Santos IA” and “Los Santos II,” which will last 18 to 24 months, and will begin in the last quarter of the year. Besides, such stage will begin after ended the first, which lasted 2 years.
According to Jose Ruiz, the two types of energies seeking to be supplied with this investment are solar and wind power.
“We all know what is happening worldwide. The challenges we are facing due to climate change can be problematic in a nearby future, therefore using these energies is a way of defeating them,” explained the company director.
After ending this second stage, the park will have a capability of 45 to 60 MW.
For Jose Ruiz, this park is a watershed in Mexico, since it is the first project of clean energy generation through a plant in the country.
One of the advantages the company director sees of investing in Chihuahua is its solar radiation, which is twice higher than in other places of the country, therefore the bet on Chihuahua is useful.
He also underlined that work was done together with the State Government and the Energy Cluster Chihuahua to fulfill this project.
Also, he noted that fulfilling this kind of initiative complies with the objectives Mexico has as a country in energy matters.
About the importance this plant has for the industrial and maquila sector, Jose Ruiz emphasized that the use of this kind of energy is important for companies due to two reasons: 1) economic resources savings and 2) social and environmental care. “This way companies could be more competitive,” Ruiz shared.
On the other hand, the director also underlined that the second stage of the plant will serve to employ technicians and qualified engineers from Ciudad Juarez and Chihuahua. Finally, he reasserted that there will be future stages for this photovoltaic plant, which will provide the plant a useful life of 35 years.
