With an investment of 150 million pesos, Michelin will install in Querétaro the first retreading plant for truck tires for Mexico and Central America; Likewise, it will expand the BF Goodrich tire production line, projects that come to strengthen sustainable mobility and its operation in the region.

The investment in this first retreading plant, which will generate 200 specialized jobs, "is further proof of our commitment to a circular economy and our respect for the environment," said Matthieu Aubron, president and CEO of Michelin Mexico and Central America. .

With this, the useful life of truck tires can be extended by reusing the hulls two or three times more. Every time 100 tires are renewed, 2.6 tons of CO2 are not emitted. With this, Querétaro continues to position itself as a pioneer in environmental issues, he added.

This year Michelin also announced the expansion of its plant in León, Guanajuato, with an investment of 400 million dollars and the generation of just over 600 jobs.

"20 years ago Michelin found its first operational home for Mexico and Central America," Aubron said during the investment announcement made at the 20th edition of the Mexico Business Summit.

In this regard, Mauricio Kuri González, governor of Querétaro recognized that the best social program for a state is to create jobs, for which he expressed his gratitude to the French for opening specialized positions in the region.

For his part, Marco Antonio del Prete Tercero, Secretary of Sustainable Development of the state , explained that Michelin participates in the circular economy chain of the state of Querétaro and its operation is in line with the decarbonization strategy.

“I highlight the commitment that Michelin has in the axes of research and development, management plans in its production sites and mapping of environmental projects, since these principles are aligned with the state's environmental agenda and ensure responsible manufacturing and aligned with the model circular economy”, said the secretary.

The production of wheels and tires in the country, in January-July of this year, grew 16.7% at an annual rate and contributed more than 1,000 million dollars to the economy.

France and Querétaro, commercial allies

France is located as the second commercial partner of Querétaro, at the end of the first half of the year, a period in which it has received 145 million dollars of foreign investment.

Regarding the project portfolio, he added, two projects from France have been completed for 149 million pesos that will generate 211 jobs and that will be added to the 61 companies present in Querétaro.

France in 2021 was the third destination to which exports from Querétaro were directed and the second in which international purchases were made.
