In April 2025, the states of Puebla, Sonora, and Aguascalientes led monthly industrial activity growth in Mexico, posting seasonally adjusted increases of 5.2%, 2.8%, and 2.7% respectively, according to data from the Monthly Indicator of Industrial Activity by State (IMAIEF) published by INEGI.
States with the Highest Monthly and Annual Growth
In addition to these top performers, Sinaloa, Mexico City, and Colima also recorded gains compared to March. On an annual basis, the highest increases were seen in Tamaulipas (9.8%), Baja California Sur (9.4%), Guanajuato (8.7%), Mexico City (8.1%), Nuevo León (5.6%), and Hidalgo (5.4%).
Conversely, Guerrero (-11.9%), San Luis Potosí (-7.7%), and Quintana Roo (-4.5%) experienced the steepest monthly declines. Year-over-year, Campeche (-19.6%), Quintana Roo (-45.9%), and Tabasco (-16.4%) registered the most significant setbacks.
Sectors Driving Growth
Based on original figures and annual rates, the mining sector posted notable increases in Tamaulipas, Chiapas, Guanajuato, Veracruz, Mexico City, and Guerrero. In electricity generation and distribution, as well as water and natural gas supply, the strongest gains occurred in Guanajuato, Morelos, Chiapas, Michoacán, Guerrero, Tamaulipas, and Baja California.
In construction, Guanajuato, Baja California Sur, Mexico City, Aguascalientes, and Coahuila stood out, while in manufacturing, Tabasco, Hidalgo, Nayarit, Sonora, and Nuevo León reported the highest growth.
Although the national indicator reported a 4.0% annual decline, the figures confirm that several states have managed to capitalize on their productive capacity and attract investments that strengthen key industries such as construction, manufacturing, and energy. Guanajuato, for example, achieved increases in four of the five industrial components, demonstrating the potential of certain regions to lead sectoral growth.
The evolution of state-level industrial activity will continue to be influenced by the momentum of strategic sectors and both domestic and international economic conditions. The next IMAIEF report will be released on September 10, 2025, offering insight into whether the leading states can sustain their upward trend.
