Inside the facilities of the Medical Center de las Americas (MCA,) was formally announced the launching of the Biomedical Cluster El Paso – Juarez, the first binational cluster that represents companies from the medical industry in the region.

The nonprofit organization will be seeking to promote the innovative manufacture and medical devices of the region, which is integrated by 30 manufacturers of these devices and that employ about 40 thousand people in both sides of the border.

According to Emma Shwartz, president of MCA foundation, the region of El Paso – Juarez is considered as the “Capital of Manufacturing” from the southeast of the United States.  “Based on more than 50 years of experience in manufacturing skills, this region has concentrated in a medical devices industry that includes some of the leading manufacturers worldwide,” she noted.

Among the industries that integrate the Bio Cluster are Seisa, IngenioRx, RexMed, Ehitcon, Dynatec Labs, BD and El Paso Electric.

Originally, the Bio Cluster was planned in November 2017 in the Symposium of the future of the Industry of Medical Devices in El Paso – Juarez, held at the MCA and the Biomedical Cluster of Cd. Juarez.  “There, representatives of manufacturers and suppliers of the region, as well as universities from the area and economic development organizations, pointed out the need of an organization that supports the continuous growth and specific needs of the medical devices industry,” Shwartz explained.

The president also explained that this industry has an important role in the bio-manufacture outlook in the United States and worldwide, due to its attractive value proposal for companies seeking for a benefit in costs and more flexible manners to improve their manufacturing capabilities.

Some of the founder members of the cluster are Julio Chiu, founder and director of Seisa; Carlos Murguia, president and director of RexMed; and Mylena Walkter, director of product planning and improvement of costs from Cardinal Health.

During the event, the invitation was made for more industries from this sector join the cluster to have the benefits offered by the organization.
