With an investment of $50 million, McDermott, a company specializing in the construction of oil platforms in the Gulf of Mexico and Latin America, has resumed its activities in Altamira, Tamaulipas. The reactivation is part of a project for Shell, involving the construction of a NIU-type oil platform.

The project, named “Manatee,” will take approximately 18 to 24 months to complete and is expected to generate around 900 jobs in the state. The platform will weigh approximately 4,600 tons and will serve Shell in the Manatee Field off the coast of Trinidad and Tobago.

Jorge Chapa, the General Director of McDermott, participated in the project initiation ceremony alongside various company executives, local authorities, and representatives from the Port of Altamira. He highlighted the opportunities within the gas extraction industry. Anabel Flores, the Undersecretary of Investment for the Tamaulipas Ministry of Economy, emphasized the economic benefits and investment attraction this new production platform will bring to the state. “This project clearly reflects the opportunities Tamaulipas offers and the favorable business environment created by the teamwork of the three levels of government and the industrial sector,” Flores stated.
