McAllen and San Luis Potosí Strengthen Economic Partnership at Anniversary Event

Business leaders, authorities, commissioners, and economic development representatives from McAllen, Texas, visited San Luis Potosí to reaffirm the commercial and industrial ties between the two cities. As part of the tenth anniversary of their sister city relationship, a commitment was signed to maintain a binational working scheme focused on creating economic development opportunities with an emphasis on industry, education, culture, employment, and the community.
McAllen Mayor Javier Villalobos and San Luis Potosí Interim Mayor Alexandra Daniela Cid González signed the official document, solidifying a decade of fruitful collaboration. The sisterhood between the two cities began in June 2014, stemming from a shared vision to connect communities and enhance competitiveness on an international level.
Allies for Economic Development
The McAllen Economic Development Corporation (MEDC) played a prominent role in the event. Ralph García, Vice President of International Business Recruitment at MEDC, discussed the growth opportunities between McAllen and San Luis Potosí, particularly in the manufacturing and logistics sectors. Jim Darling, Chairman of the McAllen Chamber of Commerce, and Elizabeth Suárez, President and CEO, also attended, emphasizing the importance of this partnership in promoting sustainable growth and development in both regions.
Roel Roy Rodríguez, McAllen's City Manager, participated as an honored guest and highlighted that signing this agreement contributes to building lasting relationships and creating opportunities for regional growth.
McAllen Business Leaders Visit BMW San Luis Potosí
As part of the business sector's visit from McAllen, various meetings with local companies took place, including a session with the BMW group, which operates a manufacturing center in San Luis Potosí and has significantly contributed to the local economy. These meetings aim to explore new collaboration opportunities and strengthen commercial ties.
Reaffirming the sisterhood between McAllen and San Luis Potosí opens new avenues for economic development and international competitiveness, benefiting both cities in multiple strategic areas with a focus on nearshoring.
