Matamoros Port in Tamaulipas: Gateway to Transnational Trade Expansion

In a bid to bolster maritime connectivity in Matamoros, Tamaulipas, the Committee for Economic Development of Matamoros (Codem) spearheaded a commercial mission to showcase the myriad competitive advantages of the Port of Matamoros, currently undergoing development to establish itself as a pivotal hub for commercial distribution and cargo.

Strategically nestled between the borders of Mexico and the United States, the Port of Matamoros emerged as an efficient conduit to other maritime terminals such as the Port of Brownsville and the Port of Harlingen, elucidated Grecia Zertuche, Executive Director of Codem.

"The Port of Matamoros boasts numerous competitive advantages for foreign trade processes. Fostering partnerships with business entities and authorities on both sides of the border is paramount to catalyzing growth across the entire region," highlighted Zertuche.

The mission saw participation from Judith Arrieta, Acting Consul of Mexico in Brownsville, alongside René Zoreda, responsible for economic affairs at the Consulate. Representing the Harlingen Economic Development Corporation was Beverly Loftus, while the Port of Matamoros was represented by Gustavo Guzmán Fernández, Director of Port Management (API), and Antonio Rodriguez, Director of Cargo and Business Development at the Port of Brownsville.

The delegation also included representatives from the Port of Harlingen and Sergio Martínez, a vocal member of CODEM.

The collaborative efforts underscored a collective commitment to fostering robust economic ties and capitalizing on Matamoros' strategic geographical positioning to propel regional development and elevate its prominence in the global maritime arena.
