Matamoros Joins Binational Autocluster to Strengthen U.S.-Mexico Border Industry

Matamoros joins the Rio South Texas Region Binational Automotive Cluster, aiming to boost cross-border collaboration and strengthen the region’s role in the global automotive supply chain.
As part of a growing regional alliance, the Rio South Texas Region Binational Autocluster was formally introduced in Matamoros, Tamaulipas, with strong engagement from the local business community. This strategic initiative aims to position the region as a major hub for the automotive industry, leveraging the economic and logistical integration between northern Tamaulipas and southern Texas.
Institutional and Business Collaboration for Regional Growth
The event was opened by Óscar Macario Farías García, President of CANACINTRA Matamoros, who emphasized the importance of long-term cross-border collaboration to drive industrial development in the region.
Adam Gonzalez, CEO of COSTEP, outlined the vision and objectives of the cluster—focusing on aligning and connecting automotive manufacturing industries on both sides of the border. The ultimate goal: to jointly promote the region as a competitive destination for national and international investment and business expansion.
Private Sector Participation to Boost Visibility
Sergio Gracia Badiola, CEO of Mexico Industry, encouraged local companies to actively participate in the initiative. He highlighted the importance of sharing information and capabilities across companies to strengthen the regional industrial network and increase its visibility to global industry players.
The event brought together representatives from key organizations such as CODEM, the Business Coordinating Council (CCE), BTA México, COPARMEX, CANACAR, and CANACINTRA Nuevo Laredo. Their participation reaffirmed a shared commitment to building a binational industrial ecosystem that is competitive, future-ready, and globally connected.
