A.P. Moller–Maersk inaugurated a new logistics depot in Manzanillo, Colima, following an investment of more than USD 15 million. The project is part of the company’s strategy to strengthen Mexico’s logistics infrastructure and enhance operational efficiency at one of the country’s most important ports, which handles nearly half of Mexico’s containerized cargo.
Key Infrastructure for Logistics Competitiveness
Located five kilometers from the Port of Manzanillo, the new depot spans 31,000 square meters and has a capacity of 6,018 TEUs. The facility is designed to reduce first- and last-mile bottlenecks while accelerating cargo flows toward Mexico’s main industrial corridors, including the Bajío region and central Mexico.
The depot supports dry cargo, refrigerated containers, gensets, and 53-foot containers. It features 50 refrigerated container connections and 60 maintenance and repair positions, strengthening supply chain resilience at a strategic node for international trade.
According to Patricia Pérez Salazar, Managing Director of Maersk Mexico, the investment reflects the company’s long-term commitment to the country. “By offering integrated services, we help our customers simplify their supply chains and strengthen their competitiveness in both domestic and international markets,” she stated.
Key services at the new facility include shunting operations to reduce truck idle time at port terminals, transloading for dry and refrigerated cargo, container management to optimize inventory flows, and specialized maintenance for dry and reefer equipment. These capabilities directly contribute to lower logistics costs and improved operational performance.
Getulio Centanaro Patino, Head of Logistics and Services at Maersk Mexico, emphasized that last-mile logistics remains one of the industry’s biggest challenges. “With this facility, we create agility where it is most needed, shorten transit times, and provide companies with greater control over their cargo,” he said, noting that the company is preparing for increased demand expected in 2026 from sectors such as retail, technology, and consumer goods.
Consolidated Presence and Expansion Plans
Maersk’s footprint in Mexico includes more than 59,000 square meters of warehouses in Mexico City and Tijuana, as well as 250,000 square meters of depot capacity in Cuautitlán, Lázaro Cárdenas, and Manzanillo. The company also operates air cargo hubs in Mexico City, Monterrey, and Guadalajara.
Looking ahead, Maersk anticipates additional logistics expansions in Guadalajara and Monterrey, with a strong focus on cross-border trade between Mexico and the United States.
With this investment in Manzanillo, Maersk reinforces its role as a key player in Mexico’s logistics ecosystem, improves foreign trade efficiency, and strengthens the country’s position as a strategic platform for global commerce.
