Lightera, a company specializing in fiber-optic solutions and connectivity systems, has announced the expansion of its production plant in Mexicali, strengthening its manufacturing capability for optical cables and reinforcing its role as a strategic supplier for the telecommunications and data center sectors in Mexico and North America.

Industrial Expansion Driven by Digital Demand

This inauguration marks the second development phase of the company’s Mexico facility and responds to the rapid growth of the digital market driven by expanding operations across Latin America, rising infrastructure needs for data centers, and the ongoing technological transformation of telecom operators and internet service providers (ISPs).

The first stage of the plant, inaugurated in 2017, focused on cable connectorization. With this new expansion, Lightera consolidates its industrial footprint by adding a dedicated fiber-optic cable production line, reinforcing its leadership in connectivity solutions for the digital economy.

Advanced Manufacturing and Greater Production Capacity

The plant, which currently generates around 400 direct jobs, incorporates high-precision technology capable of producing multi-tube cables with up to 288 optical fibers, integrated into Lightera’s product portfolio across its various manufacturing units. This expansion enables the company to respond more efficiently to demand from the Telecom, ISP, and Data Center segments—industries experiencing continuous growth fueled by rising data traffic and digital services.

“The new production line in Mexicali is a clear demonstration of Lightera’s commitment to innovation and Mexico’s technological development. We are increasing our production capacity to deliver next-generation optical solutions built to international standards, strengthening the country as a strategic connectivity hub in the region,” stated Helio Durigan, Senior Vice President at Lightera.

The expansion includes infrastructure for mechanical and optical testing within the plant, ensuring compliance with high standards of quality and reliability. Its local operation allows the facility to meet national certifications while providing logistical advantages by reducing delivery times and import costs.

The products manufactured in Mexicali are designed for export and meet international norms and certifications required to serve markets across Latin America and North America.

“This expansion positions us with greater competitiveness to meet both domestic and international demand and reinforces our commitment to job creation, technology transfer, and Mexico’s industrial development,” Durigan added.

The Mexicali plant received the “Hecho en México” certification, granted by the Ministry of Economy on November 27 in Mexico City. The distinction strengthens Lightera’s role in promoting national talent, engineering, and production capabilities.
