In northern Mexico, LEONI is advancing its growth strategy in Durango with the start-up of 14 new production lines and a US$10.9 million investment focused on technology and specialized manufacturing processes. The expansion strengthens the company’s capability to produce automotive wiring harnesses for electric and autonomous vehicles and reinforces Durango’s role within Mexico’s advanced mobility value chain.

Technology expansion and job creation

On February 24, 2026, company executives held a working meeting with Durango Governor Esteban Villegas Villarreal to present the growth plan and the status of ongoing projects. LEONI is currently in the ramp-up phase for the new lines, increasing operating capacity and reinforcing competitiveness in the North American market.

The investment totals US$10.9 million, allocated to equipment and specialized manufacturing processes. As part of the project, the plant expects to create 250 jobs during 2026, primarily in production operator roles, with the potential to maintain or expand hiring in 2027 depending on demand evolution.

Local talent and regional outlook

Participants from LEONI included Michel Da Lio, Director General and CEO Mexico; Jesús Paz, Plant Manager Durango; Roman Kalynchuk, Head of Project Management Mexico; and Iracema Román, Head of Communications Mexico. State government officials from economic development and strategic projects areas also took part to strengthen institutional coordination supporting productive investment.

The company highlighted that local workforce capabilities have been a key factor enabling the expansion, citing strong adaptability to high-specialization manufacturing processes. LEONI also indicated it is evaluating a potential additional North American expansion through a new plant—location not yet defined—with Durango among the options under consideration.

With demand for specialized components rising across the USMCA region, the combination of technology investment, job creation, and public-private coordination further positions Durango as a relevant player in Mexico’s ongoing automotive transformation.
