Lear to expand operations in Meoqui

With a 13 million dollar investment, Lear Corporation
will expand operations by settling a new plant in Meoqui, Chihuahua, ninth in
the state.
This new plant will generate 1,650 direct jobs between
operative and management personnel.
According to the company’s personnel, Lear decided to
establish a new plant in the entity for several reasons, among which highlight
the proximity with their parent company, located in Cd. Juarez; a growing area
with available workforce; stability in personnel turnover; closeness with
Chihuahua International Airport; quality life and recreational areas in the
entity; and finally, higher education level available. The beginning of personnel training to
perform a job starting in June 2019 and production is settled to begin in July.
This new plant will develop automotive seems and
garments. This new operation was a
collaboration product with the State Government, which proposed different
places inside Chihuahua; Lear chose the Meoqui area.
According to Jaime Campos, Industry director from the
Ministry of Innovation and Economic Development, the area already has a
specialization in the sector of that maquila plant, due to workforce has
previous experience in this sector.
For Lear labor relationship
with the State Government is useful: “The State is open to receive new
investments and Lear continues betting on Chihuahua. We are hoping to continue our relation with
Municipal and State Governments to continue making this project successful,”
ended Lear personnel.
