La-Z-Boy opens new plant in San Pedro de las Colonias

As result of the abroad commercial missions from the Automotive Cluster Laguna, the plant manufacturer of vestments for residential furniture La-Z-Boy from American origin, expanded their operations to La Laguna region, specifically to the municipality of San Pedro de las Colonias.

According to information from La-Z-Boy, the plant has a construction surface of 689,338 square feet (64,041.60 m2,) in a total area of 1,605,143 square feet (149,122.7 m2.)

Cutting and lounge and repose linings will be fulfilled at the industrial building, therefore it is anticipated to have a consumption of around 190,000 yards of fabric per week, to produce 27,000 linings for furniture per week.

The company has five assembly plants in Mississippi, Tennessee, Arkansas, California, Thailand, China and Mexico, this last one in Ramos Arizpe, also in Coahuila, in addition they recently acquired the brand JoyBird, which has a manufacturing plant in Tijuana, Baja California.

Together with the company’s director in Mexico, Shane Gamble, Alfredo Hernandez, plant manager of La-Z-Boy, underlined the human and labor quality of the people of La Laguna at the opening ceremony.

“With great pleasure we are beginning operations in San Pedro, we are truly surprised with the human and labor quality this city has,” he said.  “We would like to thank the team of Ana Isabel Duran, mayor of San Pedro; as well as to Jose Luis Hotema de Santiago, president of the Automotive Cluster; with whom we have been working together to consolidate this dream that began six or eight months ago,” underlined the directive, who also detailed that the hiring was of 250 direct jobs that will benefit the same number of families at the Comarca Lagunera.

Meanwhile, Hotema, who also participated at the ribbon cutting of the San Pedro plant, said that “it is one more achievement of the Cluster in investment attraction,”

He added that La-Z-Boy is a pilot project thought as an extension of the operations the company has in Ramos Arizpe, Coahuila.

With 91 years of founded, the company is recognized by its furniture in Asia, Mexico and the United States.  This last country has 6 assembly plants and one corporate in Monroe, Michigan.
