Kyungshin Cable de México has inaugurated the expansion of its Plant II in Gómez Palacio, Durango, with a $50 million investment dedicated to manufacturing battery modules for Ford electric vehicles. The project is expected to create 1,000 direct jobs—60% of them in technical roles—further strengthening the region’s industrial ecosystem.
Advanced Technology Boosts Automotive Manufacturing in Durango
The expansion includes the installation of 27 state-of-the-art machines valued at over MX$160 million, as well as a clean room designed for high-precision processes. With 56% of the investment already executed, pilot production is scheduled to begin in 2025 ahead of full-scale operations. This milestone reinforces Durango’s role as an emerging hub for electromobility in northern Mexico.
Nearshoring Drives Industrial Momentum in Gómez Palacio
At the ribbon-cutting ceremony, Governor Esteban Villegas Villarreal described the investment as a clear sign of Durango’s potential in the technology-driven industrial landscape. Meanwhile, Gómez Palacio Mayor Leticia Herrera Ale emphasized the city's growing importance as a northern industrial hub, particularly amid the nearshoring wave reshaping manufacturing across North America.
Kyungshin is now the most vertically and horizontally integrated auto parts manufacturer in Durango, expanding its core wiring and harness production to include electronic boards and critical EV components.
According to Mr. Charles Kim, Vice President of Kyungshin North America, and Mr. Kwanh Hee Choi, Plant Manager, this facility is part of the company’s global strategy to meet rising demand for transportation electrification. Key factors such as logistics connectivity, technical talent, and strong public-sector support were instrumental in bringing the project to fruition.
With this new facility, Kyungshin not only increases its advanced manufacturing capacity but also elevates Durango’s role in the North American electromobility supply chain, as Mexico continues to attract Asian investment tied to the future of mobility.
