Komatsu has inaugurated a new branch in Colima as part of its strategy to establish a service and distribution node for western Mexico and the Pacific corridor. The project represents an investment of US$1.85 million and is expected to generate approximately 21 direct jobs.
Founded in 1921, Komatsu reported global revenues of about US$26.8 billion in 2023 and operates in more than 150 countries, positioning it among the world’s leading manufacturers of equipment for mining, construction, and forestry industries.
The decision to expand into Colima responds to strengthening industrial supply chains and the need to reduce technical response times in regions with high productive activity. Proximity to Puerto de Manzanillo will enable more efficient importation of machinery and components while accelerating distribution to industrial states across the Bajío and western Mexico.
New Facility Supports Industrial Logistics in the Pacific Region
The installation will integrate maintenance services for heavy equipment, certified technical support, engineering services, and strategic spare parts management. Economic spillover is expected in specialized transportation, heavy logistics operations, and local industrial supply networks.
From a technological standpoint, the branch will operate under Komatsu’s global standards and incorporate intelligent equipment control systems, remote monitoring platforms, fleet management tools, and predictive diagnostics for preventive maintenance and field support. Internationally, the company has developed automation solutions and digital tools aimed at improving productivity, safety, and energy efficiency in mining and industrial operations.
According to Omar Piña, Commercial Director, the Colima facility will strengthen logistics capacity in the Pacific region while delivering faster response times to industrial clients as part of a broader strategy to consolidate the company’s service network in key economic regions.
Foreign Investment Reinforces Colima’s Industrial Position
Local authorities highlighted that the arrival of global firms such as Komatsu signals investor confidence and contributes to specialized job creation and the development of local supplier networks. Official figures indicate that the state attracts more than US$261 million in foreign direct investment and records imports exceeding US$56.7 billion, underscoring its role as a strategic platform for international trade and industrial expansion.
