KIA’s new investment in Nuevo León will not only expand its production capacity, but also marks a significant step toward more sustainable manufacturing by incorporating infrastructure for electric vehicles, solar energy, and water treatment at its Pesquería plant.
On the first day of activities in South Korea, as part of his Asia tour, Governor Samuel García announced the project alongside executives from the automaker, including Young Sam Kim, president of KIA Mexico.
KIA expansion in Nuevo León boosts automotive investment
The investment totals $600 million and includes the installation of a new production line, aimed at strengthening the automaker’s operations in one of the country’s leading industrial hubs.
“We are very excited to announce a new $600 million investment for Nuevo León. This commitment will translate into quality jobs, better vehicles, and a strong environmental focus, with solar panels, water treatment, and the arrival of a new electric vehicle,” he said.
In its first phase, the project will generate at least 300 direct jobs, in addition to its impact on the company’s supplier network and services linked to the automotive industry.
KIA advances electric vehicle production from Pesquería
One of the main pillars of this expansion is the incorporation of infrastructure for electric vehicle production, in line with the global transformation of the automotive industry. With this move, the Pesquería plant is positioned to evolve toward processes more closely aligned with the energy transition and the new demands of the international market.
KIA’s Pesquería plant will also incorporate solar energy and water treatment systems, with the goal of reducing the environmental impact of operations and advancing toward a more efficient and sustainable manufacturing model.
This new investment adds to the more than $3 billion KIA has allocated to the state since its arrival around 10 years ago. Today, the Pesquería facility operates as a strategic export hub, shipping vehicles to more than 45 countries, including, more recently, the European market.
With this announcement, Nuevo León further strengthens its position as one of Mexico’s leading destinations for automotive investment, with a growing focus on electromobility and advanced manufacturing.
