Key Sectors and Leading Companies Driving Querétaro Global Economic and Industrial Growth

Querétaro has emerged as one of Mexicos most important industrial regions, driven by the growth of strategic sectors like automotive, aerospace, electrical, and electronics, as well as a booming technology sector with the rise of data centers.

The states strong industrial profile continues to grow. According to the states Ministry of Sustainable Development, the secondary or industrial sector contributed 41.8% of Querétaros GDP as of the end of 2022.

Below are some of the leading companies in Querétaros key sectors:

Automotive: According to the Auto Cluster, some of the most important companies in Querétaro include General Motors, Scania, Vuhl, BRP, MAN, Hyundai, Harman, CNH, Tremec, Irizar, Scania, Tremec, Continental, Brose, Yanfeng, Visteon, Cidec, Kostal, Valeo, Autoliv, among others.
This sector generates an estimated 80,000 jobs and features a robust local supply chain with a national distribution center of an Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM), eight OEMs for buses, tractors, recreational vehicles, and light vehicles; 12 research and development centers; over 100 Tier 1 suppliers, and more than 200 Tier 2 suppliers.

Aerospace: ITP Aero was the first company in the aerospace sector to establish operations in Querétaro in 1998. Later, with the arrival of Bombardier and Safran in 2006, the sector's development accelerated, and the creation of the Aeronautical University in Querétaro (Unaq) — the first and only specialized educational institution in Mexico for this field — has played a fundamental role. Today, Querétaro stands out as one of the most important states in the aerospace industry, hosting companies such as Airbus Helicopters, GE Aerospace, Aernnova, A.E. Petsche, Albany, Delastek, Axon’ Cable, Testia, TechOps, Castel Metals, among others.

Electrical and Electronics: This sector includes key players like Samsung Electronics, Siemens, Eaton, Kostal, Watlow Electric Manufacturing, Emerson, Aptiv, ABB, and Bosch, to name a few.

Data Centers: In recent years, the data center sector has flourished, positioning Querétaro as a global hub. Companies such as Kio, Ascenty, Triara, Alestra, Odata, Equinix, Santander, Google, Microsoft, Cloud HD, Amazon, and Scala Data Centers have already established or are constructing facilities in the region.

Although Querétaro ranks 27th in size among Mexican states, it stands out as one of the most competitive. According to the 2024 State Competitiveness Index from the Mexican Institute for Competitiveness (IMCO), Querétaro ranks fifth nationwide, following Mexico City, Baja California, Coahuila, and Nuevo León.
