KCSM expansion successfully advances after the agreement to release rail tracks

With a total investment of 100 million dollars, the company Kansas City Southern de Mexico has expanded the Sanchez Yard, located 16 kilometers from Nuevo Laredo, extending its facilities before the increase of merchandise movement, mainly in the exports to the United States.
After nine years, last
March 2018, was achieved to unlock the conflict by mutual agreement to release
the rail tracks and relocate the merchants from Los Rieles flea market, thanks
to the arrangements undertaken by the Municipal Government, with the La Sandia
Ejido and the company Kansas City Southern, what enabled to continue the
construction of the two tracks.
This action now enabled
Nuevo Leon having the largest yards of the company Kansas City Southern.
The railway company
announced that the works that started in 2015 are designed to be concluded in
2025. These consist in the expansion of
the operative yard, infrastructure and facilities for the import-export
freight, aiming to duplicate its current capability and allow a higher
reception and delivery of merchandise through railway towards the United States
and to the interior of our country.
Jose Zozaya, president,
general manager and executive representative of KCSM, referred to the Patio
Sanchez as an ambitious project and one of the most important investments of
the company in the last years, whose objective is to increase the number of
railroad crossings in the northern and southern border with the United States.
“Once it is ended and
in operations at 100 %, the Patio Sanchez will be a watershed in the logistics
infrastructure of our country, that will place Mexico in the international
commerce map and will reinforce the merchandise relation with the northern,” he
noted.
The Sanchez Yard is
thinking in include 30 new tracks with an average capability of 3 kilometers
each, in addition of other 20 tracks dedicated to the classification and
switching, and of having mechanical service, for cars and locomotive supply and
a series of accesses where mechanic inspectors from KCSM can perform
inspections and work in safety conditions.
KCSM president noted
the importance of the project, mainly if it is taken into consideration that in
recent years, the company has fulfilled a significant investment to increase
and improve the transfer of merchandise in the interior of Mexico, as well as
in the United States.
Kansas City Southern de Mexico (KCSM) has always showed their total availability of collaboration with authorities from the three orders of Government, to perform works that favor the economic development of the country or of a particular region, as in this case, Nuevo Laredo, which will improve its competitiveness levels through this infrastructure.
This year KCSM has
anticipated a committed investment with the Ministry of Communications and
Transportation of approximately 119 million dollars although, as it has been
happening, they anticipate making a strong increase on the real investment,
from which 65 % will be addressed to the maintenance of the railroad tracks and
infrastructure.
