Kansas City Southern
de Mexico (KSCM) has its eyes on Nuevo Laredo, Tamaulipas, and the future which
seemed so far away, today crystalizes with the construction of the double-track
that will allow higher dynamism in foreign trade.
For KSCM the NLD
border is an important point for goods crossing, therefore it was fundamental
to have a double track achieved thanks to the collaboration of the company,
municipal authorities, and property landowners.
The legal problem
already existed, it consisted of the right of way, each week the largest
outdoors market in the city settles, popularly known as “Los
rieles” (the railway.)
At the end of the day,
conciliation was made and the construction of this second track body was
achieved, without affecting the merchants, which satisfied both parties.
The mayor Enrique
Rivas Cuellar said that this result is very positive, therefore he celebrates
the agreement.
“The double track of
Kansas City (KSCM) is being built this will allow having a higher train
crossing, that was a problem that lasted more than 10 years,” said Rivas.
Enrique Rivas on its
first administration, in meetings with companies, approached KSCM, which
explained the problem to complete the rail, that commitment is currently
fulfilled.
The secretary of the
City Hall, Raul Cardenas Thomae, advised in the legal part, said it was a long
process, but successful, in which there was an important amount of wills and
that, thanks to that, commerce will increase.
“International
commerce is a key piece for the economy and after many negotiations, we have
had in the last years, the double track is about to be finished, according to
particulars and with the support of the municipal government,” he added.
According to the same interviewed, the process was successful thanks to the collaboration of those involved parties, but also to the support and legal advisory of the Municipal Government of Nuevo Laredo,” he added.
THE LARGEST YARDS IN
LATIN AMERICA
Regarding the
secretary of Economic Development, Javier Solis Morales said that this opens
the doors to more development with an investment of 180 million dollars in this
city by KCSM.
“They are making an
enormous investment, they are expanding the ways of interconnection and make a
very important intermodal for them, which will transform the Kansas City yards
in the second largest of America and the largest in Latin America,” he assured.
He noted that this
will cause an important exchange of trains and movement, therefore by
increasing the volume, they need the higher capacity to fulfill their
operations.
“Overall, Kansas City
is trying to increase its capability from 40 % to 50 % in their movements,
which is very important for them, more than 83 % of the cargo movement is given
through land and we have to seek other alternatives for the city to compete,”
Solis said.
The secretary added
that it is important to provide more importance and development to the railroad
movement.
An important point,
that has not been dimensioned yet and that could come to the end of the double
rail, located between the neighborhoods 20 de Noviembre and Buenavista, is
strongly linked to the release of the BJ via which crosses part of Nuevo Laredo
and could completely change the city’s face, which is observed inside the
territorial structuring.
Javier Solis said that the investment has been applied and that they are seeking to buy properties around Sanchez Stations, therefore it is an important business opportunity.
