The new industrial park at the Port of Brownsville, Texas, is set to be completed in the second half of 2024 and will usher in a period of new opportunities for investment in the Northeast of Mexico and South Texas. It offers available spaces for the logistics sector and all aspects of the manufacturing industry involved in international trade processes.
Arturo Gomez, Deputy Director of Operations, explained in an interview with Mexico Industry that this is a development spanning 118 acres (over 47 hectares), comprising 18 industrial lots with all essential services. It aims to provide the best connections and opportunities for businesses.
"The development of new infrastructure that promotes or facilitates international trade is essential for the United States and Mexico. The park will have spaces for all companies requiring maritime and intermodal transportation services. Job creators are welcome. Currently, we have a young workforce ready to work with the best tools for manufacturing and logistics in the city of Brownsville and the region," emphasized the executive.
Unique in Deepwater Access
The economy of Rio South Texas has been bolstered by the operations of the Port of Brownsville, generating around 9,000 jobs, and contributing $2 billion to the regional economy, along with an additional $3 billion to the state of Texas. The under-construction industrial park will enhance the existing global competencies as the Port of Brownsville is the only Deepwater port between the borders of Mexico and the United States.
Furthermore, Gomez explained that the Port of Brownsville operates the 62nd foreign-trade zone out of 193 in the United States, ranking 2nd with $8.2 billion in exported products and $5.7 billion in imported products.
Many competitive advantages
"Mexico is our primary trading partner, and that's why when we say the new industrial park will benefit the region, we don't just include Texas, but also Mexican states like Nuevo León, Coahuila, and Tamaulipas. We offer many competitive advantages, including location, intermodal transportation, new infrastructure, and we are already prepared to welcome new investors."
The
executive emphasized that with nearshoring and the need for warehouses and
storage facilities closer to reception points, the opportunity arose to develop
the new industrial park within the Port of Brownsville. "Construction
began in June 2023, thanks to the dedication of our staff, research, and
support from all areas. We have set the opening date for mid-2024," he
concluded. Among the competitive advantages are enabling companies to expand
their markets, improve supply chain efficiency, and contribute to sustainable
and resilient operations with a base that combines multimodal transport access
and storage capacity in international trade.
