Economic and Industrial Development of Tijuana (Deitac) issued its work plan for 2022, in which it is expected to record figures similar to those of 2021 with more than 7 million square feet in absorption of industrial spaces , due to the demand for expansions and new companies.
Carlos Jaramillo Silva, president of Deitac , highlighted that Tijuana experienced a growth of more than 200% in industrial absorption during 2021 , while similar trends are expected for 2022.
"We are an organization supported by around 100 companies in the city, in order to position Tijuana as the best investment destination in the country," he said.
The leader pointed out that during 2019 the city had a net absorption of 3.6 million square feet, while in 2021 it exceeded 7 million , thanks to the growth of already established companies and the arrival of new operations.
"By the first half of 2022 we will have around 3 million square feet under construction to be able to offer spaces to the new industry that is arriving, and what happens is that just as it is built, it is absorbed, due to demand," he stressed. Jaramillo Silva.
In that sense, he said that the industry of southern California is the one that is expected to have the greatest presence in Tijuana, mainly in sectors such as electronics, the television industry, which is booming, and the medical device industry, which remains very strong.
"What we must do is align ourselves to offer the infrastructure that the industry requires, which we must do together as a city," said the leader, who clarified that in the absence of economic promotion agencies, Deitac has become the largest promoter of Tijuana .
Regarding the work plan for 2022 , he noted, there will be a focus on human talent, proximity to the United States and connectivity, and the regional ecosystem, as he assured that there is no state where a more agile operation can be started than in Lower California.
He added that the emerging sectors that will be given impetus will be the Health Sciences, from medical tourism to biotechnology; Mobility, where the automotive industry merges with light vehicles, bicycles and autonomy towards the future; and Electronics and Information Technologies that have been merged.
Finally, Jaramillo Silva highlighted that in order to achieve its objectives, Deitac created new cross-cutting work committees related to talent, logistics and investment, in order to underpin the actions for this 2022.
