Starting February, McAllen International Airport, Texas, will offer a daily direct flight to Mexico City through Aeroméxico, utilizing the Felipe Ángeles International Airport (AIFA).

Jeremy Santoscoy, the airport's Aviation Director, explained that the consolidation of this airline will expand air travel options for all of South Texas, providing immediate connections to other destinations such as Cancun, Guadalajara, San Luis Potosí, and Oaxaca, among other Mexican cities.

New Destinations

Additionally, he highlighted the economic growth contribution the McAllen-Mexico City route will bring. "At McAllen Airport, we are always looking to bring new destinations and form alliances for the benefit of the entire region. Aeroméxico is introducing a direct flight to Mexico City through AIFA, available from February. This addresses the demand for business, industry, and tourism travel."

Currently, 45% of South Texas passengers use McAllen Airport to reach their destinations. In 2023, the airport experienced a record-breaking 10% increase in mobility, serving 964,246 passengers. This marked a period of uninterrupted growth since 2019.

Continuous Growth

The direct flight to Mexico City adds to other flights that McAllen International Airport will have starting in 2024. Santoscoy recently announced the opening of three daily direct flights to Austin through Delta Air Lines, beginning in April.

Modernization Plan

"This connection to the capital of Texas will have different schedules tailored to tourism, commerce, business, sports, education, and other needs. Ticket sales started in December, and we've received a very positive response, including from companies and industries for whom connecting to Austin is crucial," mentioned the Aviation Director.

He also indicated that this growth will be reflected in an airport modernization plan, including extensions in boarding areas and passenger services, as well as the addition of a VIP access lounge.
