The competitive advantages and incentives offered by Harlingen, Texas, for investors in the automotive and logistics sectors were highlighted by the Harlingen Economic Development Corporation (Harlingen EDC) during their participation in the second International Automotive Industry Supply Summit in Querétaro, Mexico.

Harlingen was presented as an efficient option for international trade processes, boasting the Free Trade International Bridge “Los Indios,” which focuses on cargo transportation and connects northern Tamaulipas with southern Texas. The presentation also emphasized the ease of acquiring industrial land for developing storage and logistics distribution centers, as well as industrial parks. “There are numerous opportunities for Mexican companies, including the ease of imports and exports. At EDC, we own land that guarantees immediate availability for building the necessary infrastructure, and we provide personalized advice and incentives,” explained Orlando Campos, CEO of Harlingen EDC.

The event facilitated numerous business connections with leaders, suppliers, and authorities. “We are very excited to have participated in this International Summit as we established new contacts and saw significant interest in our region. The automotive industry has been thriving in Harlingen, and we believe that in 2024 we will finalize new investment projects that will benefit the entire community,” Campos emphasized.

Harlingen-Matamoros Collaboration

Campos attended the International Summit alongside Beverly Loftus, Director of Operations at Harlingen EDC. To highlight the strong relationship with Mexican organizations, they collaborated with the Matamoros Economic Development Committee (Codem) during their trip to Querétaro. This alliance set a precedent for both cities, which are committed to fostering binational investment attraction. “The joint work with business organizations in Matamoros, Tamaulipas, such as Codem, which has become a great ally, is very important to us,” stated Campos.

Given that the automotive manufacturing industry is a prominent area for investments, Harlingen EDC’s alliances also extend to the export maquiladora association, Index Matamoros.
