Valley International Airport Expands Connectivity with New Direct Flights to Chicago and Denver

Valley International Airport (VIA) in Harlingen, Texas, is set to introduce two new direct flights to the cities of Chicago and Denver through partnerships with American Airlines and United Airlines. Nicolas J. Mirman, Director of Air Services and Business Development at the airport, announced that the seasonal flights will initially operate on Saturdays in February and March, offering passengers the opportunity to connect to over 100 cities across the United States through the airlines' networks.

Mirman stated, "If the public response is positive and the flights prove successful, we will consider the possibility of expanding dates and duration. Currently, all flights will arrive and depart from Harlingen around midday or early afternoon, exclusively on Saturdays."

American Airlines will operate flights to Chicago-O'Hare, while United Airlines will connect to Denver. Mirman emphasized the significance of the Denver route, providing not only access to Colorado but also to the entire mountainous region and the West Coast of the country. From Denver, passengers can reach over six airports in the Los Angeles metropolitan area and five in the San Francisco area.

With the addition of these airlines, VIA's offerings are further enriched, complementing the existing presence of carriers such as Southwest Airlines, Sun Country Airlines, and Delta Air Lines. Mirman highlighted the competitive nature of this diversity, stating, "This competition contributes to making our airport competitive. It is noteworthy that United Airlines will be flying from South Texas to three direct destinations for the first time, covering its key areas and providing access to 95% of its offerings in the United States."

In 2023, Harlingen Airport ranked among the top 75 airports with the highest cargo movement in the United States. Building on this achievement, the airport's goals for 2024 include elevating its international standing, expanding operational zones, and enhancing cargo reception capabilities.
