The construction of the new Roosevelt Industrial Park in Harlingen, Texas, is anticipated to begin during the third quarter of this year, according to Orlando Campos, CEO of the Harlingen Economic Development Corporation (Harlingen EDC).
With manufacturing and logistics companies showing significant interest in a strategically located space in the Rio Grande Valley region, the first phase of the project will involve a $2 million investment to establish basic infrastructure and services. "The plans to start construction of this industrial park are well advanced. We estimate that within 3 to 4 months, infrastructure work will begin, which will attract even more interest from the productive sector. Harlingen offers many competitive advantages, from having an airport that provides cargo service to a dry port, as well as highways and international bridges," Campos stated.
The industrial park will be situated between Roosevelt Road and Primera Road, spanning approximately 74 acres. Campos highlighted that the lots will accommodate various companies, particularly those focused on industry.
In 2023, the U.S. Economic Development Administration (EDA) announced a grant of up to $1.6 million to Harlingen EDC for the development of this new industrial park. Campos noted, "Federal support is crucial for increasing our economic development opportunities. We aim to attract more companies, not just from the region. One of the main advantages of our city in terms of industrial infrastructure is that Harlingen EDC owns land for building industrial parks, which significantly enhances our investment appeal."
To attract new companies to the city, the EDC team has participated in various conferences, exhibitions, and business meetings in both Mexico and the United States.
