Guanajuato Exports USD 16.66 Billion and Climbs in National Ranking 2025
October 2, 2025
Guanajuato reached USD 16.66 billion in exports during the first five months of 2025, positioning itself as the second-largest non-border exporting state and the seventh nationwide. The figure confirms business traction and a growing export base with broader global reach.
Diversification of Destinations and Business Network
During this period, 35 municipalities and 1,616 companies participated; 80% correspond to MSMEs, preserving more than 215,000 direct jobs. The state’s products reached 131 countries, adding new destinations such as French Polynesia, Kyrgyzstan, and Sierra Leone—evidence of a strategy that expands markets and reduces risks.
The Coordinadora de Fomento al Comercio Exterior (COFOCE) is the Guanajuato state agency that supports companies in exporting through networking, advisory, and international promotion. Under its guidance, the participation of the United States decreased to 82.5% of the total, while Canada advanced 52% with demand in vehicles, fresh food, and footwear.
Sectors with Strongest Dynamism
The automotive and auto parts sector adjusted by -4.5%, but other segments grew significantly. Pet products increased 10% and sporting goods 77%, diversifying the export basket beyond the automotive cluster. Japan re-entered the top 10 as the eighth destination with growth in enamels, metal-mechanics, and fresh foods; the United Arab Emirates consolidated in ninth place with leather goods.
In agri-food, fresh peppers rose 11%, blueberries 21.5%, and frozen strawberries 20%, with Canada and Australia as expanding partners. In fashion, cowboy boots (8%), leather goods (18%), hats (7.6%), and footwear parts (81%) stood out—an area where MSMEs add value and capture new niches.
In construction, faucets doubled in value with 100% growth. In crafts, ceramics and decorative items surged toward Guatemala (332%) and the Netherlands (116%), demonstrating that the state’s design and flexible production compete in select markets with strict quality demands.
With USD 16.66 billion and a network of 1,616 firms exporting to 131 countries, Guanajuato strengthens its export base and reduces geographic concentration. The combination of active MSMEs, emerging destinations, and expanding sectors sustains its position as one of Mexico’s exporting powerhouses.
