Guanajuato emerges as Mexico's fifth economic power

In a significant economic stride, Guanajuato has transitioned from the sixth to the fifth-largest economy in Mexico, announced Governor Diego Sinhué Rodríguez Vallejo. Over the past six years, the state has solidified its position as Mexico's leading automotive cluster, boasting seven assembly plants that contribute to 20% of the state's GDP.

Notably, Guanajuato now ranks only below Mexico City, the State of Mexico, Nuevo León, and Jalisco, with Veracruz occupying the sixth position. Presently, Guanajuato represents 4.7% of the national Gross Domestic Product (GDP), while these top six states collectively account for 50% of the national GDP.

Guanajuato currently leads the nation in vehicle production, and projections indicate the production of over one million cars by 2030. This forecast opens doors for opportunities among Guanajuato's micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs).

89 Investment Projects

With a presence in 24 of the 46 municipalities, this economic activity aims to balance the state's economy by creating job opportunities within and beyond the industrial corridor. According to the state government, 89 investment projects in the automotive and autoparts sector have been executed and expanded, representing a capital of $5 billion and generating over 35,000 direct jobs.

The primary objectives of these investments, as outlined by the government, include diversifying the economy, accelerating local businesses, and attracting technologically advanced investments to foster the creation and preservation of formal and high-quality jobs.

Key Focus Areas

Guanajuato currently manufactures components for the new vehicles demanded by the industry, including flexible sleeves, harnesses, connectors, controllers, pipes, rubber profiles, bearings, aluminum-injected battery housings, electric vehicle chargers, fluid conveyance systems, tires, and more.

The government, academia, and businesses are collaboratively addressing three key focus areas: energy, innovation, and circular economy, alongside ongoing training programs to meet the industry's evolving workforce needs.
