Grupo Pochteca opens a new plant and distribution center in Jalisco

With an investment of 13 million dollars, this plant seeks to supply the needs of more than 20,000 clients in different industrial sectors in Mexico

Grupo Pochteca, a Mexican company of international scope, specialized in the distribution of industrial products, inaugurated its plant and distribution center in Tlaquepaque, Jalisco. It has the capacity to store and handle solvents and chemicals for 1.7 million liters, with the possibility of boosting up to 5 million liters in the coming years, to meet the needs of the industry located in the Pacific zone.

The new plant has a size of 10,000 square meters and from this, it will supply its 20,500 customers from more than 40 industrial sectors in Mexico, among which are the automotive, electronic, metalworking, packaging, graphic arts, exploration and drilling sector oil, mining, food industry, personal and household care, paints and coatings and water treatment, among others.

“In this plant we will house different products, such as inorganic chemicals, solvents and mixtures, food additives and specialties, lubricants and greases, paper and cardboard, personal care specialties and other products. In addition, we will offer industrial waste management and logistics services, ”said Armando Santacruz González, general director of Grupo Pochteca.

Grupo Pochteca is a leading company in the integral supply of chemicals and raw materials for the industry in Mexico, which promotes solutions in inputs for competitiveness. It has 33 branches in Mexico, three in Central America and five in Brazil, with a storage capacity of 21 million liters; 110,000 square meters of storage and 300,000 square meters of logistics capacity.

“Through this structure we process more than 300,000 orders per year, delivering more than 313,000 tons. This industrial logistics structure, coupled with the support of more than 100 suppliers, allows us to offer a portfolio of more than 7,000 products, is strengthened by 12 quality control laboratories and 12 application development and research laboratories, ”explained Francisco Martínez, director corporate operations of Grupo Pochteca.

Meanwhile, Armando Santacruz González, general director of Grupo Pochteca, said the company trusts Jalisco.

“20% of our engineers in the country graduate in this state. It has thriving companies in the electronic, pharmaceutical, IT, technology, machinery and engineering, food, metalworking and graphic arts sectors, among others, ”he added.

The managers explained that Jalisco, being the fourth entity in the country in contribution to the Gross Domestic Product and the fifth in attracting foreign investment, was the reason to invest in this plant and distribution center in the state.

“The location of our plant and its road and rail connections will allow us to become a logistics hub from which we serve not only the state of Jalisco, but also all of our customers on the Pacific coast, with capacity to also support our operations in the Bajío. The total investment of the plant is 13 million dollars and in the immediate future we will put one more, ”said Santacruz González.

During the construction of this plant, 267 temporary and start-up jobs were generated, this plant will have 70 permanent jobs that, as their operations grow, will increase.

The area where this plant is installed is located on a plot of 26,000 square meters, which Grupo Pochteca plans to take advantage of for future extensions.

Currently, Grupo Pochteca can store 2,000 tons of dry product. In the plans for this plant, it is expected to install racks at seven levels, in order to increase this storage capacity.

It has a section of special tanks for the storage of solvents and chemicals with a capacity of 1.7 million liters, but this capacity will grow in the future up to 5 million liters and at its railway station, they can receive up to 20 vans or tank trucks.

“This plant will occupy the third size within the Pochteca Group plants in Mexico, and the fourth at the continental level. With it we hope to round up its ability to provide products to its customers with raw materials, in more than 500 locations in the Mexican Republic. Likewise, its ability to handle dangerous chemical products, with world-class safety standards, allows Grupo Pochteca to offer specialized logistics services to the chemical industry of our country, giving our clients access to our entire geographical footprint. Likewise, our proposal for the collection of hazardous waste will be strengthened with this vision to our infrastructure, ”added Santacruz González.

Grupo Pochteca is the only company in Mexico that has the Responsible Distribution (RD) certification granted by the Association of Chemical Distributors of North America. In addition, they have the certification granted by the National Chemical Industry Association, with an average rating of 92.2% against a general average of 87% of certified companies.

“In our transport business we achieved a rating of 90.8 against an industry average of 80.8. This is important because it gives certainty to our customers and suppliers, that the handling of products is given with world-class safety and ecology standards, thus ensuring the integrity of their employees, their products and their heritage, guaranteeing respect for the environment. at all times, ”said Francisco Martínez.

He added that, with the opening of this plant and regional distribution center, the company's new vision materializes, focusing on sustainable development, decent employment, inclusion, gender equality and anti-corruption standards. As part of this vision, Grupo Pochteca has carried out the following actions:

They are part of the “Companies for Wellbeing” project, where all affiliates are committed to ensuring that none of their employees receive less than 6,500 pesos per month.

Through the Building and Growing Foundation, Grupo Pochteca offers its employees the opportunity to complete their studies at the primary, secondary and high school levels, within the company's facilities, as well as writing, computer and various technical courses There are currently 47 collaborators graduated through these courses and 23 attending one.

In 2018, Grupo Pochteca implemented a culture of legality initiative, coordinated with the federal program, Mexico United Against Crime, in all its plants in the country, and in 2019 they expanded it to countries such as Guatemala, El Salvador and Costa Rica.

They also have an inclusion program for people with disabilities.
