Grupo Neolpharma announced an investment of MXN 750 million to expand its pharmaceutical raw materials production plant in Toluca, State of Mexico. The project is expected to generate 250 direct jobs and 900 indirect jobs, while strengthening the national manufacturing of inputs for generic medicines.
Luz Ocampo, CEO of Grupo Neolpharma, said the project responds to the global trend toward supply chain regionalization and the need to strengthen local production of strategic inputs for the healthcare sector.
“We are at a moment in which the world is shifting from hyperglobalization toward the regionalization of supply chains.”

The executive explained that the investment will focus on the production of APIs — active pharmaceutical ingredients — used in the manufacturing of generic medicines.
“That is what the investment presented today by Grupo Neolpharma is about. We are talking about raw materials, APIs,” she said.
A year ago, the company announced a plant in Morelos and will now expand the project with a new facility in Toluca, State of Mexico, aligned with the strategy of producing inputs within the country.
“Grupo Neolpharma is committed not only to that project, which is already a reality, but to continuing to invest.”
Neolpharma incorporates sustainability and exports into its industrial strategy
The plant will incorporate technology for development and manufacturing processes, as well as infrastructure focused on environmental sustainability. The company reported that it will invest in solar power generation to reduce the carbon footprint of the operation.
“We are investing in solar energy so that our APIs are created with a reduced carbon footprint.”
The executive added that production will be aimed both at the domestic market and exports to the United States, Europe, Japan and Canada.
Ocampo emphasized that Mexico has the opportunity to integrate into a regional supply chain in the pharmaceutical sector and recognized the support of health authorities and regulatory agencies in developing long-term projects.
