GE Aerospace expands operations in Sonora and Coahuila with MXN 760 million investment

GE Aerospace announced an investment of MXN 760 million to strengthen its aerospace manufacturing operations in Hermosillo, Sonora, and Saltillo, Coahuila, as part of its industrial expansion strategy in Mexico. The resources will be allocated to new machinery, tools, calibration equipment and infrastructure improvements to increase operating capacity and respond to international demand in the sector.

Most of the investment will be concentrated at the Hermosillo, Sonora, plant, where the company will allocate MXN 725 million to modernize facilities and expand production capabilities. The project includes the incorporation of high-precision tools, large-scale machinery and material handling systems that will increase industrial efficiency and improve manufacturing processes.

“These projects will strengthen the operating capacity of the Hermosillo complex to support GE Aerospace’s global customers and programs,” said Jonathan Ruiz, Plant Leader for the company in Hermosillo. The executive noted that the strategy also seeks to raise safety, quality and efficiency standards within the Mexican operation.

Aerospace industry in Mexico accelerates investment in advanced manufacturing

In Saltillo, Coahuila, the company will invest another MXN 35 million to incorporate new production equipment, update tools and improve the industrial infrastructure of the plant operated by Unison, a subsidiary of GE Aerospace. The company explained that these actions will strengthen its response capacity amid the projected growth of the global aerospace market.

“With these investments, the Saltillo plant continues to optimize its processes and expand its capabilities,” said Rodrigo Castro, Site Leader of Unison in Saltillo. The executive highlighted that the modernization will make it possible to offer higher-performance solutions and meet the delivery times required by international fleets and programs in the sector.

The company detailed that improvements in both operations also include adjustments to strengthen the work environment, optimize the layout of operating areas and improve safety and ergonomics conditions for workers. In addition, the projects seek to increase the consistency and precision of processes through advanced measurement and calibration equipment.

With this new capital injection, GE Aerospace will reach accumulated investment of nearly MXN 1.3 billion in Mexico between 2025 and 2026, consolidating the country as a strategic platform for aerospace manufacturing. The company also operates in Querétaro, Querétaro, an engineering center with 26 years of experience focused on innovation and technological development for its global operations.

The announcement comes in a context of growth for advanced manufacturing and the aerospace industry in Mexico, sectors that continue to attract investments aimed at increasing production capacity, automation and technical specialization to serve global supply chains.
