Ford inaugurates the Global Center for Technology and Business in Mexico

Ford Motor Company inaugurated the Global Technology and Business Center: GTBC (Global Technology and Business Center, for its acronym in English). This complex has an investment of 260 million dollars .

 The new campus of the North American company will function as a global center to support the different key operations of the brand in the world, becoming a core axis for the transformation and modernization of the company.

Designed with a sustainable, holistic, avant-garde and inclusive approach, the GTBC  will be able to house up to 9,000 collaborators in a hybrid work scheme, it has a 19-hectare plot of land in which 4.3 hectares are designated as a protected ecological zone and 170 thousand square meters of construction that integrates two core buildings: one that will be the headquarters of the Corporate Offices , with a capacity that will allow the talent behind the oval to continue growing, another building for the largest Automotive Engineering Center in Mexico and one of the most important in Latin America .

The new headquarters of Ford of Mexico is more than a new campus with modern facilities and state-of-the-art technology, it has been conceived to create an ecosystem that facilitates collaboration and innovation as an essential part of the global transformation of Ford Motor Company .

Mexico as a Center for Global Business Solutions

Since its arrival in Mexico, more than 97 years ago, the company has been characterized by its commitment to generating jobs in the country. Under a global transformation and modernization scheme of the business model, the GTBC houses the collaborators who work to lead the key operations in strategic areas for the corporation in: Product Development, Supply Chain, Marketing and Sales, Post-sale, Information, Human Resources, Finance , among others.

Since 2021, the year in which Ford de México was selected as one of the three global business solution centers, the region has increased its talent attraction with 850 new professionals. This growth is 2.5 times greater than the initial objective and shows that there are great opportunities for growth in the automotive company.

During 2021 and 2022, Ford de México has contributed to 58 automation projects aligned to the Ford+1 plan, achieving estimated lifetime savings of more than $175 million dollars.

Laura Castro, director of the Center for Global Solutions in Mexico , commented that the decision to create this center in Mexico was thanks to the trust that the corporation has in Mexican talent, characterized by attributes of quality and capacity for innovation, to contribute to the efforts to transform and modernize the business model.

This new complex is an integral part of Ford Motor Company 's global engineering network and an ideal space for automotive development.

The Ford Engineering Center in Mexico has a staff of more than 2,800 engineers, it is currently the largest in Mexico and one of the most important in Latin America; That is why the Product Development team has become the global benchmark in the generation of innovation ideas and patents among the engineering centers of the automotive world.

Ford's Engineering and Product Development team in Mexico covers a broad spectrum of disciplines and specialties, ranging from the planning, design and computer-aided engineering stages, to full-scale validation and launch.

For this, there are recreational spaces that encourage creativity from the initial part of a project, to measurement and prototyping equipment, laboratories, an experimental garage, among other facilities for carrying out product design and testing, which will allow us to continue innovating. in products and services with the most advanced technology. 

Within the equipment for physical tests, this center is equipped with environmental and solar simulation chambers, electrodynamic equipment for vibration, scanning and 3D trajectory tracking by means of cameras and artificial vision, robots, material analysis, a hexapod for tests of fuel, among other technologies .

In the field of software development and electronic modules , these laboratories integrate state-of-the-art technology for the design and validation of future electrical architectures, this includes sophisticated simulators and testing equipment for electronic systems.

 

Commitment to the community

Ford  has always had a strong commitment to the communities in which it operates, which is why, with the development of this new campus in the State of Mexico, the company, together with the local authorities, has provided infrastructure and accessibility with the implementation of facilities public electricity, drainage, creation of roads that will allow a faster and easier connection to the rest of the municipality with this new development.

For Ford , sustainability and care for the environment are a priority, so the new facilities in the municipality of Naucalpan will have 4.3 hectares designated as a protected ecological zone where the company has initiated reforestation sessions with endemic species.

On the other hand, a gabion wall has been developed, the largest of its kind in Latin America, which will allow the filtering of water in its natural course towards the ravine in order to prevent its erosion and feed the local riverbeds and dams.

In addition, among other actions in favor of the environment, the new GTBC will discharge wastewater to a treatment plant owned by the developer of the area, thus being a site considered zero discharge, since nothing will go to the municipal drainage.

 

Constant growth

“Having the capacity to host up to 9,000 employees in a hybrid work scheme opens up the possibility of expanding collaboration with universities and expanding the brand's operations in the country. We are very happy with this challenge, the opportunities that we see in the future for Ford of Mexico are many”, highlighted Carlos Valdez, director of Human Resources.
