First stone laid for Intuitive Surgical in Baja California

The medical industry reaffirms its confidence in Baja California by receiving new investments from companies in the field, such as Intuitive Surgical , which laid the first stone of its building in Mexicali.

Intuitive Surgical is a world leader in minimally invasive care technology and a pioneer in robo-assisted surgery , noted Kurt Honold Morales, state Secretary of Economy and Innovation, who witnessed the ceremony.

It was about the laying of the first stone of the third building of its Carranza Campus , he pointed out, whose expansion sends a message of confidence in Baja California and highlights human talent as the basis for attracting projects with greater technological content.

The new building, as part of the third stage of growth of the company, he said, will allow the development of new processes and the creation of 1,500 new jobs , in addition to increasing diversity and technological level. 

The state official explained that globally, Intuitive has a presence in 60 countries and is a leader in robotic technology for surgical assistance with the Da Vinci and Ion robots , and which arrived in Mexicali since 2008, adding to today a total of 2,300 collaborators. 

"We seek the evolution of the entity towards a center of value, encouraging greater technological content and innovative processes such as those carried out by Intuitive, the technological solutions that are created with the talent of Baja California make it possible to offer a better quality of life in terms of to health and longevity," he noted.

“Talent is the basis for the transformation we seek, so in the triple helix: companies, educational institutions, and government, we are working to make the changes that allow us to take advantage of the opportunities offered by the CaliBaja region and new technologies to create jobs. of higher value”.

For his part, Bob de Santis, Executive Vice President and Product Manager , stressed that the company is committed to Baja California and the expansion is part of the growth and consolidation strategy of the global organization, based on Mexicali. 

While Carlos Aguirre, Terán, Intuitive's vice president of manufacturing for North America,  said that almost 15 years ago the corporation made the decision to start a small operation in Mexicali.
