The Mexican Federation of the Aerospace Industry (Femia) and the Mexican Space Agency (AEM) will promote an intense agenda in alliance to scale the capacities of Mexican companies in the country's aeronautical sector, towards the space sector of the digital age , in a strategy to advance industry and space technology in multiple telecommunications and Earth observation applications.
The general director of the AEM, Salvador Landeros Ayala , explained that there are aerospace companies with important operations in the country that, until now, have only had activity in the aeronautical field, but that in their subsidiaries in other countries are developed in the space sector , which will be used to produce satellites in Mexico , as has already been achieved with AztechSat-1 , with the support and advice of entities such as NASA and other space agencies.
" Thanks to the talent of our Mexican engineering, we are already working on new nanosatellites projects to develop consistent capabilities to merge aerospace technologies with information and communication technologies, in order to create a Mexican space industry," he said.
The executive president of Femia, Luis Lizcano , emphasized that the achievements of the Mexican aerospace sector have been a world example since, if it is not initially part of the list of exporting countries, “today Mexico is the third destination for foreign direct investment in this industry , only behind the United States and the United Kingdom , as well as the tenth exporting country and the sixth supplier in the United States, with a volume of 9.600 million dollars , meaning an executive and economic capacity that, now, is it will also focus on the model called New Space ”.
In order to contribute from this strategic sector to the economic reactivation of the country, Femia has created with a firm commitment the Space Commission , chaired by Benjamín Najar , since space today means connectivity, in the Internet of Things and in observation of the Earth .
Technological disruption has caused the space to become a commercial niche and not exclusively for countries that dedicate large budgets to their programs , since this change that has occurred in the industry has reduced costs and increased productivity, derived from the new nanotechnological processes applied to space.
Currently, this sector is registering great growth worldwide and it is a wave that Mexico must take advantage of in order not to lag behind .
The mission, Najar explained, is to take advantage of the proven talent of our youth in order to develop the ecosystem of the national space sector (a supply chain and services), working together with the Government of Mexico to promote a space development agenda that , with cutting-edge technology, generate economic benefits and new jobs.
Nowadays, to reach space, you must team up and join forces for a common purpose between government, industry and universities .
La Femia will promote among its members, support and sponsorship of specific research and technology projects in international cooperation, linked to the development of science focused on space exploration.
This synergy is the result of the efforts of several years of research and analysis of the space sector of Thrusters Unlimited , a 100% Mexican company that has ventured into the international promotion of this sector to establish the national space industry , as well as attract foreign companies to invest in Mexico, develop new technology and manage technology transfer.
