Strategic site selectors visited Matamoros, Tamaulipas to explore the competitive advantages and potential the city offers to investors, ranging from industrial park infrastructure and land availability to international logistics connectivity and a skilled workforce experienced in manufacturing processes. This was part of a familiarization tour organized by the Council for South Texas Economic Progress (Costep), in partnership with the Greater Brownsville Incentives Corporation (GBIC), and hosted by the Matamoros Economic Development Committee (Codem).
Opportunities for economic growth in Matamoros were showcased in various presentations supported by real estate developers, brokers, and legal advisors. Rick Carrera, Director of Economic Development at Costep, explained that this visit was part of the second familiarization tour they have organized. It began in Brownsville, Texas, with the participation of five site selectors from U.S. companies based in Texas, Chicago, Atlanta, and Philadelphia, with international impact.
"Our goal with these tours is to introduce site selectors to our region and all the advantages we offer for their companies. We've had an incredible response; most of them were not familiar with Brownsville or Matamoros, so this was the perfect opportunity. They have shown great interest, have many questions, and want to learn more," expressed Carrera.
René Xavier González, Secretary of Codem and representative of the Los Palmares Industrial Park, provided a presentation on the industrial offerings and short, medium, and long-term growth of industrial real estate developments in Matamoros. He also highlighted the presence of international companies in Matamoros and successful case studies.
Grecia Zertuche, Executive Director of Codem, addressed the support provided to new investors to establish themselves in Matamoros through a comprehensive support process covering strategic location, legal, customs, operational advice, and the prosperous relationship with authorities.
Meanwhile, Jerry Briones, Deputy Director of GBIC, emphasized the cross-border collaboration between Matamoros and Brownsville to remain competitive internationally, especially in foreign trade processes.
The presentations captured the attention of the consultants, who asked various questions and committed to maintaining open communication channels for future business collaborations and investment projects.
