The Anzalduas International Bridge will begin to welcome trucks carrying cargo starting in February 2025, according to Juan Olaguibel, superintendent of the McAllen-Hidalgo and Anzalduas international bridges.

Trucks will be able to cross in both directions (northbound and southbound) between the cities of Reynosa, Tamaulipas, and Mission, Texas, providing a competitive advantage for binational trade.

Currently, the Anzalduas International Bridge only allows the crossing of empty trucks. However, a expansion project began in December 2022 to enable the crossing of loaded trucks, which had reached 42% completion by the first quarter of 2024. "The goal of this project is to enhance our competitiveness as a region, offering companies a new crossing point between the United States and Mexico. The lanes will be wide for truck passage, and we will have a customs area to swiftly inspect the merchandise," commented Olaguibel.

The crossing of loaded trucks will also create new opportunities on both sides of the border, with the development of logistics spaces to facilitate the storage or transportation of goods.

Recently, a meeting was held to review the details of the expansion project, attended by Texas legislators, commissioners, and authorities in McAllen, as well as entrepreneurs from both sides of the border.

The importance of this international route was emphasized during the meeting. "We have a great support network, and in the last meeting, we provided an update on our progress and where we are headed. We are investing around $85 million in this project, knowing that it will have a significant impact on the entire community," concluded Olaguibel.
