In order to strengthen its infrastructure and improve its logistics services, Estafeta will invest 1,950 million pesos  in this 2021.

He also said that 2020 was a watershed in modern history, because the global health contingency forced people to stay at home, leaving plans and projects on hold. But the logistics sector had to reinvent itself in a few days due to the rise in market demand, which led to Estafeta  increasing its operations by 50 percent .

“We did this increase in a few weeks. In addition, electronic commerce grew by 80%, and this is a sign of the strength and resilience of Mexican companies that need an efficient logistics sector that contributes to improving their businesses, ”he stated.

The new investment will be used to strengthen the physical and digital infrastructure of Estafeta, given the growth of electronic commerce, for which the company is working on:

  • Have smaller operational center locations at key points in major cities.
  • Redesign of routes to make shorter and more efficient routes.
  • Integration of technological tools that increase the number of deliveries on the first attempt.
  • Expansion of the network of contact points so that recipients have more options to receive their shipments when it is most convenient, integration of Lockers.

THEY WILL BUILD A NEW LOGISTICS HUB AND ACQUIRE A NEW FLOTILLE

Added to this is the creation of a new automated Operations Center (hub) in Mexico City, in which they will allocate 350 million pesos .

It will be located north of the Metropolitan Area and will have an area of 10,800 square meters , to serve 61 places with attention to courier, parcel and maximum delivery guarantees ; as well as it will have a capacity to process 18,000 shipments per hour in its first stage, which will be in April 2022; so initially they will hire around 240 people.

It is projected that it will have around 50,000 services per hour  at its maximum capacity, and this hub will also allow offering a better service in reverse logistics activities, needs that saw the boom in online sales such as returns or product exchanges .

Therefore, they will implement the Crossbelt system that helps in the automated preparation of orders and their classification to routes in the distribution center. This high-speed technology allows an automatic, precise, fast and safe classification of any type of product.

In addition, it has a design that allows the adaptation of the system to the speed of feeding and unloading of the products, guaranteeing an optimal adjustment, generating benefits such as improved energy efficiency, precise positioning and orientations, as well as adjustable speed to specific needs .

Jesús García Ibarra, Estafeta's director of operations, announced that a large part of the investment will be for the acquisition of a new fleet with 1,190 units of heavy and light equipment; so they will allocate 1,125 million pesos .

Araceli Ramírez, Human Resources director, affirmed that they will continue to create employment opportunities with decent salaries and benefits that are higher than the law.

In addition, they are committed to continuing to take care of the health of their collaborators, so that around 1,000 employees continue to work through the home office , with this, they have had to give them financial support so that they can improve their internet services, as well as They have provided tools so that they can carry out their tasks more comfortably, through computer equipment, ergonomic chairs, among other elements.

“We also provide them with telephone assistance so that they have psychological and legal advice. We are looking for talent given this growth that we have and the objective of being able to connect people and businesses ”, he commented.

Griselda Hernandez, director of marketing and customer service, said that according to the Mexican Association for Sale Online (amvo), the e - commerce in Mexico grew by 81% in 2020 , which pressured the logistics operators to modify their infrastructure to meet the great demand of the market.

For this reason, Estafeta had to respond to these needs, together with the other services it provides, which allowed them to grow 50% in their operating capacity and record double-digit revenues.

In view of this, the customer service area has omnical service plans , such as the expansion of contact points, in which convenience stores and small businesses will be added for the delivery and / or collection of products; as well as the use of lockers.

“We are working to the next level of this omnicity project. We plan to grow to 3,000 points of contact, as well as the contact network that refers to pick up and delivery. So customers can have multiple alternatives. We are exploring the lockers area as alternative points, we are working with one of the main consulting firms in customer experience and we have invested in technology to streamline processes in digital environments, "he said.
