Starr-Camargo International Bridge Boosts Trade Efficiency with Expanded Customs Inspection and Freight Handling

The Starr-Camargo International Bridge is setting new standards for trade facilitation between Tamaulipas and Nuevo León in Mexico and southern Texas, USA. With the implementation of the Joint Customs Inspection program for 100% of import cargoes, seven days a week, and the clearance of oversize and overweight shipments, the bridge offers unparalleled advantages for businesses.

Boasting minimal wait times of just minutes, the Starr-Camargo International Bridge has become a preferred route for seamless cross-border trade. Derly Rivas, responsible for commercial development and promotion at the Starr-Camargo Bridge Company, is spearheading a new program in Mexico to attract additional companies and industries for their import and export processes.

"The Starr-Camargo International Bridge offers numerous competitive advantages for businesses, from its strategic location providing connectivity to major highways in the northern United States and Mexico's interior, to the ease of double-load crossing with spacious lanes," remarked Rivas.

One of the key features is the Joint Customs Inspection, where Mexican and US customs agents collaborate simultaneously, expediting cargo inspections and streamlining supply chain processes.

Situated between Camargo, Tamaulipas, and Rio Grande, Texas, the international thoroughfare offers lucrative opportunities for binational enterprises. Beatriz Castro, International Legal Officer at Starr Camargo Bridge Company, emphasized the benefits for businesses across various sectors. "We want all stakeholders, from logistics and manufacturing to customs, to recognize the advantages of using a private bridge. Connectivity to states like Nuevo León and Tamaulipas sets us apart, along with efficiency, as minimal wait times translate to cost savings."

Looking ahead to 2024, the company has ambitious growth plans, including infrastructure projects such as the establishment of cold storage facilities for logistics companies and a Mexican-side vehicle park to facilitate cargo maneuvers before crossing into Texas. Additionally, plans are in place to expand transit lanes to up to 14 multimodal lanes, including railways.

"The interest from businesses in utilizing the Starr-Camargo International Bridge has been overwhelmingly positive. We aim to elevate growth and service levels for businesses and industries, always striving to meet their needs and deliver the best," concluded Castro.
