Dr. Oetker México Expands Querétaro Plant to Boost Production Capacity

Querétaro

November 30, 2025

The expansion of Dr. Oetker México’s D’Gari and Rexal plant marks a new chapter for the German group’s operations in the country, celebrated with the participation of Governor Mauricio Kuri González during the inauguration ceremony. The company highlighted the project as a clear sign of business confidence in Querétaro—a state known for security, economic stability, and legal certainty, all of which support long-term investment decisions.

Expansion Strategy Driven by Leading Brands

Humberto Varela Ochoa, General Director of Dr. Oetker México, explained that the expansion strengthens a continuous growth trajectory since the company’s arrival in 2004. He noted that D’Gari, with 72 years in the market, stands as the number-one packaged dessert brand in Mexico and the second best-selling in the United States. He also highlighted the 95-year legacy of Rexal, a brand strengthened since its integration into the portfolio in 2018, consolidating the group’s presence in key consumer segments.

The company attributed its expansion to Querétaro’s strategic location, logistics infrastructure, supplier proximity, and a business environment that enables efficient operational deployment. Key factors such as security, local talent, and collaboration with authorities have positioned Querétaro as a platform for supplying national, U.S., and Latin American markets.

Increased Capacity and Technological Modernization

Hagen Wichmann, also General Director of Dr. Oetker México, acknowledged the work of more than 750 employees and suppliers who participated in the development of the project—one of the most complex in the company’s history. He reported that the plant now reaches a daily production capacity of 250 tons, supported by upgraded production areas, storage facilities, laboratories, and employee spaces.

The expansion includes a photovoltaic park generating 80–90 megawatts per month—equivalent to 25–30% of annual energy consumption—a wastewater treatment plant with a capacity of 75 cubic meters per day, and a comprehensive fire-protection system. These additions strengthen environmental responsibility and further position Querétaro as a competitive destination for the food industry.

A Business Environment that Encourages Long-Term Growth

Marco Antonio del Prete Tercero, Secretary of Sustainable Development, stated that the state maintains continuous support for companies seeking to expand operations and improve workplace conditions. He emphasized the importance of promoting a balance between productivity, employee well-being, and environmental stewardship—values that align Querétaro with the demands of global industry.
