Dow globally celebrated 125 years of innovating in materials science with a commitment to sustainability, its business partners and the communities in which it operates.

For this reason and aware of the challenges currently facing the industry, the company reinforced its commitment by announcing various initiatives, projects and investments, seeking cutting-edge solutions for the development of increasingly safe and sustainable materials on the way to transition to a circular economy.

In Mexico, Dow began operations in 1959 and, since then, has combined chemistry, biology, and physics to create sustainable solutions to some of the region's greatest challenges.

“Currently, 99% of what we touch has chemical components, so contributing to the transformation of the industry towards a more diverse, inclusive, equitable and sustainable one that helps maximize the balance between economic, environmental and social value, is of vital importance for our company”, said Javier Constante, president of Dow in Latin America. "Mexico and the northern region of Latin America are of great importance to Dow in its 125-year history, because we know the power of science to solve some of the challenges we face today."

Following this line, over the next few years, the company will focus its efforts on promoting improvement projects in its own facilities in the different states where it has a presence: Mexico City, Tlaxcala, Querétaro and Toluca, in order to continue developing technical capabilities in its teams to launch technologies to create and improve the materials its customers need to respond to consumer needs.

NEW PROJECTS

During the celebration event, different projects that will start this year were announced:

  • Investment in the Polyurethane research and development center that the company operates in Tlaxcala to improve infrastructure and expand testing and analysis capabilities, in order to speed up the time it takes to develop strategic projects in the region.
  • The implementation of improvements in its local production capacity of silicone elastomer compounds, through an external manufacturing contract with one of the main players in the Mexican market.
  • A new technology that will facilitate mechanical recycling and a high-performance washing process that improves the quality of plastic.
  • Shrink film with 30% post-consumer plastic. This solution allows us to offer the market sustainable secondary packaging while maintaining the required quality and performance.

“At Dow we are aware of the important role that the chemical industry plays in the production chains for the development of a wide variety of products that range from materials for general use, to materials with a high technological content and cutting-edge for other industries. Therefore, our commitment is to continue leading the transformation of the sector while consolidating our position as the most innovative, customer-focused, inclusive and sustainable materials science company in the world”, concluded Verónica Pérez.
