In promoting new investment in the Rio South Texas region , all cities from Laredo to Brownsville are included in the economic growth plan currently being prepared by The Council for South Texas Economic Progress (Costep) for the benefit of the shared border region Texas with Mexico.
The skills and areas of opportunity should be highlighted to investors, commented Ricardo Carrera, Costep 's director of economic development .
In this sense, the city of Donna, Texas, is within the planning and scheme with which it is intended to attract new investment.
Having a strategic location just a few miles from the border strip and being constantly growing, according to data from the Texas Department of Transportation (Txdot), which shows a 16% growth in passenger mobility in personal vehicles during the first five months of this 2023.
Meetings with the Economic Development Corporation
Currently, Costep holds meetings with each department of the Economic Development Corporation (EDC) to define their strengths and spaces available to industries, and thus land investments according to the needs and interest of entrepreneurs. "We want to detonate the Rio Grande Valley region even more, so that companies know that there are capabilities, advantages, skills, labor, as a region we can attract any project," said Carrera.
Million Dollar Expansion of the Donna-Rio Bravo International Bridge: Boost to Mexico-Texas Trade
For his part, Carlos Yerena, city manager of Donna, Texas, informed Mexico Industry of the investment of at least 100 million dollars for the expansion of the Donna-Rio Bravo International Bridge and thus place new inspection areas with technology and specialized lanes. that allow receiving cargo units, and thus open a new space for international trade and its logistics processes between Tamaulipas and Texas, having a strategic location a few miles from the border strip.
Carrera insisted on the importance of generating new infrastructure projects in the cities covered by Rio South Texas, especially to expedite connections between Mexico and the United States. “ The Mexican border and the industrial activity that takes place on that side complements us, we are talking about experience, above all in manufacturing, in operations; we are in meetings with all the EDCs to create an economic growth plan that guarantees the arrival of new investments”.
