The Donna-Rio Bravo International Bridge has begun accepting empty cargo trucks from north to south, aiming to incentivize and streamline trade between Donna, Texas, and Rio Bravo, Tamaulipas. This initiative is part of a widening project that will see an investment of over $100 million, offering new opportunities for economic development focused on the logistics, industrial, and commercial sectors.

In terms of efficiency, Walter Weaver, Director of Customs and Border Protection (CBP) in Progreso, Texas, highlighted the coordination achieved at checkpoints to ensure the swift transit of empty units from the United States to Mexico. He also emphasized the bridge's capacity, stating, "We can accommodate all required units for 12 continuous hours from Monday to Friday. Our officers are trained, and facilities are adapted to facilitate rapid crossing into Mexico."

Carlos Yerena, City Manager of Donna, Texas, discussed the economic benefits the bridge brings to the city and expressed expectations for increased tax revenues to enhance citizen services and quality of life. "Opening the bridge to empty units was crucial for the entire region. While only empties are permitted in this first phase, we aim to receive loaded cargo in the coming months, which will have a very positive impact on revenue. Additionally, we will help alleviate traffic flow from other bridges."

David Moreno, Mayor of Donna, Texas, emphasized the significance of this crossing for the entire southern region of Texas. "This is a historic day for the Texas and Tamaulipas region. The benefits will be mutual, advancing investment attraction, job creation, and economic development. Our city serves as an efficient trade route, and we invite all transporters to explore it."

The event saw attendance from business leaders, transporters, and authorities from northern Tamaulipas and Rio Bravo. Notable figures included Acting Commissioner Verónica Salazar Ávila, Councilor Soraida Coss, and Tourism Head Blanca Pérez. Donna, Texas commissioners Ernesto Lugo, Oscar Gonzalez, Joey Garza, and Jesse Jackson also attended, foreseeing new opportunities for Donna's development, particularly in warehousing and logistics distribution centers.
