Desert Park, a 646,000 m² industrial development in Hermosillo, is set to attract nearshoring-driven investments in automotive and high-tech manufacturing.

A new industrial development—Desert Park—will soon break ground in northern Hermosillo, Sonora. With a surface area of more than 646,000 square meters, the park aims to attract investment from the automotive, technology, and advanced manufacturing sectors. Located along the extension of Antonio Quiroga Boulevard, the project is backed by local investors and envisioned as a high-value platform for nearshoring-driven companies.

Arturo Fernández, President of Sonora Global, explained that the focus is on attracting "tractor companies"—leading firms that serve as anchors within supply chains and foster the growth of a local ecosystem of suppliers and service providers.

Although no anchor tenants have been confirmed yet, land preparation is already underway, and the initial phase will include the construction of industrial buildings. This project represents a forward-looking bet on Sonora’s potential as a strategic location for supply chain relocation.

Designed for high-tech, high-impact industries

Desert Park will be divided into three industrial zones, each aimed at attracting companies with strong economic impact, particularly in sectors such as:

  • Automotive
  • Semiconductors
  • Information Technology
  • Engineering and Software
  • Advanced Manufacturing

This sectoral diversity aligns with Sonora’s broader strategy to boost its technological sophistication and support industries with high added value and global relevance.

Nearshoring momentum and national collaboration

The Desert Park initiative is expected to generate synergies beyond Sonora, particularly with key industrial regions like Nuevo León, which already boasts a mature ecosystem of automotive and tech suppliers. Strengthening connections between these states could support a broader national network for manufacturing and innovation.

The park also aligns with Sonora’s vision to transform Hermosillo into a competitive logistics and innovation hub, capable of attracting foreign investment, creating quality jobs, and enabling sustainable industrial growth.
