The municipality of Cajeme has advanced negotiations to establish a DEACERO® steel recycling plant, with an estimated investment of MXN 119 million. The initiative promises job creation and increased local economic activity, with its location planned in Cajeme, Sonora.

Key Stakeholders and Location

The meeting was led by Mayor Javier Lamarque Cano, together with representatives from DEACERO® and the Municipal Department of Economic Development. Andrés Camacho Ojeda (Northwest Zone Operations Manager) and Mariana Serna Perales (Institutional Relations) confirmed the project and its proposed location in Cajeme, Sonora.

DEACERO®, one of Mexico’s leading industrial and recycling companies, operates with an advanced production profile and is recognized among the country’s main steel recyclers. The company strengthens the circular economy model by promoting the collection and transformation of scrap metal for reintegration into domestic production chains.

Local authorities highlighted the area’s advantages — available land, skilled labor, strong connectivity through Highway 15 and the local airport, and proximity to universities — making Cajeme an attractive destination for private investment and for integrating regional suppliers.

Although no official start date or permits have been announced, the project is currently in its final administrative phase with local and institutional authorities to ensure regulatory compliance and favorable conditions for its prompt execution.

The potential arrival of this facility would expand Sonora’s industrial base, strengthen the metal-mechanical supply chain, and formalize steel collection operations. For the region, it would mean direct and indirect employment and greater mobility of raw materials due to its location along the Mexico 15 Highway.

This corporate initiative reinforces Mexico’s positioning as a hub for manufacturing and recycling investment focused on productivity and sustainability. If completed, the Cajeme plant will enhance the region’s ability to reuse materials, reduce logistics costs, and increase competitiveness across industrial sectors.
